Tomorrow is the first day of October, and if you’re anything like me, that means it’s the season to binge on blood, guts, and the best schlock ever put to celluloid. Yep, October to me is all about the horror movies, and that means that most of the month on the Main Damie is going to be dedicated to horror movies that we watch this month, in a variety of different formats. Here’s a quick rundown of what to expect this coming month.
5. Horror Movie Reviews
For the past three years or so, I’ve made it a mission of mine to watch as many horror movies as possible during October. This year will be no different, only this time, I’ll actually have a place to put my reviews. I’m not particularly sure the format of these reviews. I don’t want to do a simple 500-1000 word review. I’ve been toying with the idea of putting the review into an infographic format or maybe a “Five Things I Learned From…” sort of style, but I haven’t decided yet.
4. Horror-Themed Number 1’s and 5 For Fridays
Even our regular features will be horror themed in October. Each week, we’ll continue to feature our Number 1’s on Wednesdays and our 5 For Fridays on Fridays and they will all be a new horror topic every week.
3. Episode Reviews of Season 4 of The Walking Dead (and Maybe Season 3 of American Horror Story)
With this past season of Breaking Bad, I got into the habit of writing up a weekly episode review of the show, so it seems only natural that I’ll do the same for The Walking Dead, the next show that I’ll be watching every Sunday. I’ll be watching American Horror Story as well, but I’m not sure if it warrants a weekly recap. We shall see.
2. Throwback Thursdays, Featuring RL Stine’s Goosebumps
Along with the other horror watching going on this coming month, I also wanted to do something special for Thursdays. Almost every week, every social media site is filled with “Throwback Thursday” content. For this site, we’re going to celebrate it with a viewing of the childhood favorite, RL Stine’s Goosebumps.
I had shelves upon shelves of the book series growing up and I used to watch the series as well. Each week, I will revisit two episodes of the show and give a quick write-up about it.
1. They Called This a “Movie” Podcast
It has always been a dream of mine and the contributors of the site to implement some sort of podcast idea in addition with our usual weekly content, but we haven’t done one yet; mostly, it’s because we didn’t know which route we wanted to take in terms of a weekly podcast. In order to keep the runtime to less than a half-hour or so, we’ve decided to do a theme, which we call “They Called This a ‘Movie’ Podcast”. Similar to other like-minded features on the web, this is where we’re going to feature a terrible horror movie a week and come together and discuss the viewing with each other. The inaugural podcast will feature our take on the classic Snoop Dogg’s Hood of Horror. Presumably, we will continue this feature into November and onward, expanding the roster of movies to all genres of terrible movies.
