It’s that time of year again, when radio stations decide that 24 hours of Christmas music is a good idea and Candice Cameron Bure comes out of her bubble to star in a made for TV movie. While this may sound like a bad thing, it’s not — trust me.

Ok, maybe some of it’s a bad idea, but for the most part, the Holiday Season is one of the best times of the year. You get to spend hours with family members that you don’t get to see often and no matter how the evening goes, you will always have stories to share with friends on New Year’s Eve.

The month of December is also the when normally sane people decide that spending two hours watching an ABC Family or Hallmark Channel original movie is a great use of their time. And as one of those people, I’ve decided to make more use of that time by subjecting my self to best of the worst of this genre. And yes, I will be adding a few movies that look interesting in order to keep my sanity.

Throughout the next three and half weeks, I will be sharing my thoughts on these holiday “classics” by scoring them on a scale of 1-5 in the following three categories, and :

reason for the seasonlovestorychristmasness

All three are self-explanatory, but for the sake of thoroughness, I will break down each category . First, “Reason For the Season” will focus on any mentions or scenes involving religious traditions, Baby Jesus and/or the number of non-secular Christmas songs in the movie.

Second is Love Story. This category mostly encapsulates a romantic relationship between non-related people and how much a movie revolves around it, but the movie may get a point or two if the plot is about love of family.

Finally, Christmas-ness is a catch-all for the amount of Christmas songs on a movie’s soundtrack, decorations on a house’s interior and exterior, street choirs and gift giving. Basically, everything related to the holiday that is not religious. The scoring will scale from a 1 (some lights and/or a tree) to 5 (a Buddy the Elf wet dream).

Hopefully, you will join me on this journey through the wonderfully cheerful land of basic cable/direct to DVD Christmas films. The first entry will post in the next hour and will post at the same time each day until Christmas. Enjoy!
